Dàąt’e, sı̨ Jaida Edjericon sìyeh. My name is Jaida Edjericon, I am a member of the Deninu K’ue First Nation currently residing in Treaty 6 territory in Edmonton, Alberta. I grew up in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories on the Yellowknives Dene First Nation territory.
I am a Two Spirit traditionally focused interdisciplinary artist, and I currently am working towards gaining education with a focus on art therapy. What drives me is my passion for other Indigenous women like myself to gain meaningful opportunities and have the tools to reach their full potential as well as reconnect with their culture.
I am currently focused on regaining my culture and want to further push myself to relearn my language, so that many generations after me may still have our beautiful and sacred traditions. Through learning to bead, sew ribbon skirts, moccasins and weave dream catchers, I have gained a larger understanding of myself and a deeper appreciation for my culture.
My last name means Little Buffalo, as my ancestors resided near Little Buffalo river. I decided to honour my family name by creating my own business Little Buffalo Creations and this year, I am hoping to facilitate beading workshops for my fellow peers so that I may share my gifts and sense of pride with other like-minded individuals. I am very excited to work with CRE to be a part of empowering youth to connect with their culture and each other. Masi cho for reading.
