Taanishi! My name is Daylan Kidder, and I am Métis. My family roots can be traced back to the Red River, with my family coming from Qu’Appelle Valley, Saskatchewan. I currently live on the unceded territory of the Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc (Kamloops) within Secwépemc’ulucw. Previously, I spent my childhood in Treaty 8 Territory in High Level, Alberta.
I have a desire to change the outcomes for our young Indigenous people who have been in care by helping shift the way child welfare is practiced for Indigenous people. Part of this is to look towards healing, both culturally and spiritually. This has led me to get my Social Work Degree, specializing in child welfare, along with my Aboriginal Studies Certificate. I now work for Lii Michif Otipemisiwak Family & Community Services as a Youth Services Social Worker, to help change the outcomes for our Indigenous youth.
I want to ensure our young people have every opportunity to succeed and build their communities, and themselves up in whatever way they see fit. Therefore, I am so excited to be on the CREation Advisory Circle, to help ensure Indigenous youth and youth collectives around Turtle Island have access and support to cultural opportunities, supports and funding for themselves and their communities.
