Miranda Whiteloon

Peer Mentor

My personal goals are to expand my knowledge of mental, physical, and spiritual health as well as to learn a second language, create healthy habits, and save $ for my future. My professional goals are to land a career that I feel helps people. I have a passion to help and to care for others – I’ve come to learn that it’s something I was born to do and something that nourishes my soul, as well as others. Ideally, I would love to become a Speech-Language Pathologist, as I know how much this profession has helped my family members overcome barriers in their early life – I find the work they do is life-changing, like this program, which I think is beautiful.

In 5 years, I hope to still be living in a stable environment (preferably one of my choosing!) By then, I should be in my final year of College/University. I will have my Driver’s Licence and will be employed full-time in a career that I feel fulfils me. Right now, I am moving towards these goals by taking training in the mental health field, such as harm reduction, mental health first aid alongside others. I am also in the process of beginning my G1 Driver’s Licence and saving up for my schooling in the near future.

I like anything creative as a hobby, I love anything to do with music – such as singing, dancing, playing violin! I hope to learn to play the guitar when I find the time. I love many forms of art, and that is what has a hold on my heart for now. My current hobby would be learning new beading techniques alongside painting.

I would have to credit my family as my main inspiration. I’m grateful to have been birthed into the family I was, things are never perfect but the trials and tribulations which my family (and heritage) has gone through is what has driven me to want more for myself, not in a selfish way – but to hopefully carry on the resiliency my loved ones (friends and supports alike) have persevered through. I wish to carry on their integrity with grace just as I have witnessed them do.
