Hi, I’m Nicole Maxell and I was born and raised in Sioux Lookout, Ontario on Anishinabewaki and Metis land under Treaty 3. My Nonna and Kokum had a large hand in raising me and my siblings and I base a lot of my understanding and values from the love they gave me. I came to Toronto to study Fashion Design at Ryerson and then graduated in 2015. After 3 years in garment production my career shifted to something I find more valuable: working to empower and engage youth. I believe the art and handcrafts of our grandmothers and fathers is one of the most powerful and accessible tools to reintroduce youth to their culture. I’m honoured to work at CRE to support the people and programs that strive to enact real change.
