Indigenous Policy SchoolThe Indigenous Policy School is working to develop the next generation of influential Indigenous policy leaders.

Over the course of nine months Indigenous youth will learn from a broad range of guest speakers about policy development, government advocacy and systems change and will be provided with the skills and opportunities to impact policy decisions that matter to them. The School will provide space for Indigenous youth (aged 18-29) to engage with peers through interactive in-person and online sessions on a local and national level. The School will support Indigenous youth to ensure their priorities are advanced and perspectives are reflected in government policies and programs.

We Are Looking For Indigenous Youth…

  • Aged 18-29

  • Who have demonstrated an interest in public policy and governance

  • Who are committed to being involved in an intensive program from January to September, 2020

  • Who are solutions-focused with a desire to create real change

  • Who reside in Regina, Saskatoon, Toronto, or Ottawa  *additional locations in 2021*

  • Who are available for a multi-day in-person policy retreat with other successful applicants in Toronto to kick-off the program from January 16th to 19th, 2020 *All-expenses paid for students who are accepted into the program*

  • Who are available for in-person sessions on the first and third Tuesday of each month (time of day determined by participants, faculty committee, and guest speakers) and online sessions and check-ins on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month

  • Who are interested in contributing ideas and knowledge to further the development of the program for future participants!

This Program Will Provide Youth With The Opportunity…

  • For support in potentially accessing paid placements within the Federal government during the months of May to August

  • To develop policy recommendations in areas that matter to them and to present their solutions in-person to federal government policymakers and leaders at the end of the program

  • To co-develop and shape policies and programs with the government during and after completion of the program

  • For experiential learning within the community through participation in local events and gatherings

  • For ongoing networking in professional environments that can further connections for future employment and career development
  • To engage with a network of Indigenous policy leaders upon completion of the program committed to policy development, holding government accountable, and improving the overall representation of Indigenous people in positions of leadership.

This network will become a source of knowledge and expertise as it continues to grow each year.


*We can offer support to youth who have jobs that may require letters of support to participate in the Indigenous Policy School. Please inquire for details.
