This initiative is aimed at non-Indigenous settlers of colour; it will engage participants in concrete discussions around connecting to homelands, and explore the nuanced experiences and responsibilities of settlers of colour.
The project consists of 6 workshops with 10-15 ongoing participants and will run from January – February 2024. Applications will be received through the CRE website. Eligibility requirements are ages between 18-29; self-identification with the term “settler of colour”; and current residency in so-called Canada. Youth will receive a $200 honoraria for completing the program.
The series includes an in-depth discussion of the different types of settlers (refugees, migrants, etc.) including a specific examination of Blackness in Canada. Participants will engage in 6 two hour workshops with activities addressing the themes mentioned above, and ongoing journaling, and will leave with resources for further development.
